Detection of Targets and Change in SAR Imagery: The C-CORE Experience

Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is an active remote-sensing instrument that provides day-andnight, all-weather, broad-area imaging capabilities at high resolutions. Recently available space-borne SAR platforms enable a growing number of applications in movement detection, ice monitoring, encroachment monitoring, subsidence monitoring, and target recognition, just to name a few. C-CORE has played a role in enabling and hastening the adoption process of this technology. In this paper, we present some of C-CORE’s recent work on SAR image analysis with a focus on detection of targets and change. Pertinent technical challenges are highlighted alongside real-world examples to consolidate our illustration.
